Direct chill is a simple, practical and highly effective way to chill water rapidly.

Its principal advantage over other cooling systems is that the water flows continuously through the system, rather than sitting waiting to be dispensed, and so bacterial proliferation - a constant bugbear of other cooling systems - is no longer an issue.

Under the framework Horizon Soft Drinks Ltd offer a direct chill mains fed water cooler complete with a patented design of a UV lamp in the dispensing area. This ensures that it is far more difficult for bacteria from the external environment to enter the inside of the cooler through the pipes and start to form bacterial colonies. The dispensing area is subject to favorable UV radiation from the lamp, making proliferation next-to-impossible. The UV rays, then, act to protect an area that would otherwise be prone to environmental contamination.
